Coffee Chat: Patti’s Thanksgiving Story

When Mary and I started talking about the holidays, I shared with her one of my particularly meh Thanksgivings. My parents divorced earlier than I can remember and I’ve been in a number of blended families growing up, making for some very awkward holidays to the say the least.

I had a Thanksgiving with my dad and grandmother where I was completely silent. I once spent the holiday with my mom and her friend who ended up being a hoarder. In 2008, I said I was thankful that Barack Obama was going to be president and an entire table of Boomer adults became unhinged. But in the story I’m sharing today, I am 20 and a junior at UF.

Things We Loved: October

A big thank you to Fulton County Schools for our annual fall long weekend. Tomorrow, Mary and I are headed off to the beach and to the mountains respectively, to escape a loaded weekly schedule. Finally, a catch-all opportunity to do all those family things we’ve been putting off since the beginning of school. It’s a very quick slide into the holiday season, so here’s our most recent Things We Loved before we have to switch gears for the end of the year.

Child(ish) Reads: Momfluenced

When our blog project started, Mary got slightly offended about Child(ish) Advice being conveyed as a “mommy blog”. I told her, “You are a mom. You have a blog.”

Child(ish) Advice the blog is obviously a type of long-form media and we have multiple social media accounts; so regardless of our following, I guess we qualify as “influencers”. And today, even though this is a book review, it is also a bit of a meta moment.

Things We Loved: August

We should know by now that planning a Things We Loved post in early August is going to be a scramble. It’s the end of summer, both sets of twins have their birthdays, and school just started. While it’s not hard just to go recap into our Amazon orders, those lists are all crayons, school supplies, toiletry refills, and packs of new socks because our kids have outgrown everything.
